Limescale on Showerhead

Showerheads can get surprisingly grimy. To remove limescale buildup, pour distilled white vinegar into a plastic bag and fasten it over the showerhead using an elastic band. Leave it for an hour and then remove the bag, running the shower on hot to flush out the showerhead. For limescale on taps, soak a cloth in vinegar solution and wrap it around the tap, leaving it overnight. Use an old toothbrush soaked in the solution to work away any remaining residue. Remember not to use vinegar on plated taps, particularly gold ones, as the acid can damage the finish.

The Versatile Use of Bicarbonate Soda

Bicarbonate of soda is a cleaning superstar due to its gentle abrasive nature and natural deodorizing properties. Use it to remove tannin stains from teaspoons and cups, absorb food odours in the fridge, clean countertops, stainless steel sinks, microwaves, and cooking utensils. It can also deodorize carpets, upholstered furniture, and pet beds. If your gym clothes won’t lose their odour, soak them for thirty minutes in a sink filled with cool water and five to six tbsp of bicarbonate of soda.

Let It Sit

When cleaning the bathroom, let the cleaner work its magic by leaving it to sit for at least 10 minutes before rinsing it away. This will result in a better and more thorough cleaning.

Dish Soap for Drain

If your drain is slow to drain, squirt some dish soap down there and run hot water. Dish soap is formulated to cut through grease, which can accumulate in your pipes.

Baking Soda and Lemon Juice to Get Rid of Sink Odor

For a DIY de-clogger to keep your pipes clear and smelling fresh, flush your drain with hot water, then slowly pour a cup of baking soda down. Finish with a cup of lemon juice and wait for the fizzy chemical reaction.

Wash Bedding at 60°C or Above

To kill dust mites and bacteria, wash your bedding at 60°C or above, even though lower temperature washing is favored for environmental reasons.

Wash Sheets and Bedding at Least Once a Fortnight

For minimal bedding maintenance, wash it at least once every two weeks. If someone in your household has asthma, eczema, or a dust mite allergy, change bedding and sheets once a week. If you have pets, Sleep Foundation suggests washing bedding every 3-4 days.
